Dianna's Corner: Family Resolutions!

Meagan Cottage

Happy New Year everyone! Truth be told this is actually one of my favorite times of the year. It's a time for fresh starts, new beginnings, and new goals. It's a time to reflect on the year before and cut out all the things, habits (and people) that were weighing us down. I love taking this time to set new goals and map out the way to achieve them.

Every year my little family sets a family goal. We talk about things that are important to each of us, ideas, ways to set goals, what will help us reach our goals and ways that we can help each other achieve their goal. This year our family goal is "No Candy for 2017" (my 2 and 4 year old may have already thrown that goal out the window).

Here are a few tips and ideas that help us in our goal setting!

+ Be S.M.A.R.T with your goals!

- Make them -- Specific, Measurable, Achievable, Relevant and Timely

+ WRITE IT DOWN

+ Set a goal  Make a plan  Get to work  Stick to it  Reach your goal

+ Set Goals. Say Prayers. Work Hard

+ Setting Goals Will...

           -Give Direction

           - Energize

           - Provide Challenge

           - Make you think outside the box

+ Mistakes in Goal Setting:

              - Not writing it down

              - Making too many

              - Too big

              - Not specific

“It is not enough to want to make the effort and to say we’ll make the effort.... it’s in the doing not just the thinking, that we accomplish our goals. If we consistently put our goals off, we will never see them fulfilled.”
— Thomas S. Monson

Goals help us progress and achieve things that seem impossible....New Year, New You! Make 2017 great!
